Acrylic painting: windy landscape with two trees

Acrylic on A4 paper

I am not overly confident in my painting abilities, particularly acrylic painting, but if I want this blog to be a faithful record of my art journey, then my weaker works have a place here too.

Reference for this landscape was taken from photos I took while I was in the West coast of Ireland. The trees depicted are palm trees, and rather than ‘sway’ in the wind like most other trees, they stand staunch and their head of leaves seems to ruffle and ‘expand’ like a mop of hair. I found these trees difficult to paint without them looking like spiky lollipops. However I am very fond of how the sky turned out – it really does look like a windswept, gust-ridden “tent of blue”!
